Fleuret, 19500 Curemonte, France

Dordogne Region

French Dordogne - Curemonte in the mistOur houses are all within 20 km of our own home at Fleuret, 3km from the mediaeval village of Curemonte and 30km from Brive-la-Gaillarde.

A comfortable days drive from the main channel ports, we offer ferry and euro tunnel discounts to all our guests.

For those wanting a more relaxed drive, motor rail runs from Calais to Brive from May to October- put your car on the train in Calais on Friday evening, spend the night in a cabin on the train, and wake up in Brive the next morning, just 30 minutes drive from our houses!

Reaching us by air gets easier each year as budget airlines expand their routes. Limoges airport is just over an hours drive away and has direct flights from London Stanstead, Liverpool, East Midlands and Southampton, on either Ryanair or Flybe.

Other airlines fly into Bergerac, Toulouse and Bordeaux, all of which are within 2 hours drive.

If you enjoy traveling by train, Brive is just 4 hours from Paris-Austerlitz, which coupled with the new eurostar service from London St Pancreas to Paris Gare du Nord means you can travel from London to Brive in around 7 hours.

Beaulieu BrocanteThe village of Curemonte dates back to the 11th century and has been honoured with the title of "L’un des plus beaux villages de France". Despite its numerous attractions (3 Chateaux, 3 churches and a market hall), it remains very much a working village, with a post office, bar/tabac and three restaurants. There is also a local farmers market once a week in the summer months. Beaulieu sur Dordogne, just 10 minutes from Curemonte and, as its name suggests, situated on the Dordogne River, is a small market town with many shops, several bars and restaurants and a twice-weekly market. The Benedictine Abbey and Chapelle des Penitents are in the centre of the town, canoes can be hired at the river, as well as boat trips on the traditional "Gabares".

CollongesA mere 15 minutes drive takes you to villages, chateaux, caves and of course the Dordogne River. To the west is Collonges-le Rouge, the "city of little castles", and Turenne, a 15th century village whose high pitched roofs surround two castles from which the foothills of the Massif Central can be seen. To the south and east is the Dordogne valley, with a wealth of villages such as Loubressac, Autoire, Carennac and Martel. The Chateaux of Castelnau, Belcastel and Montal are all close by, while the citadel of Rocamadour is only 30 minutes drive away. For those wishing to explore a little further afield, the world famous Lascaux caves can be reached in an hour, along with the many other attractions of the Lower Dordogne area. The Cahors and Bordeaux wine regions are also within easy reach.

Chateua de SedieresFor those seeking more active pursuits, horse riding can be arranged locally, canoeing down the Dordogne River, tennis, bicycles are easily hired, three nearby golf courses, and we can also arrange hot-air ballooning trips.

For many, however, the main attraction of the region are the rolling hills, peace and quiet of our immediate surroundings, as well as the local gastronomic specialities such as foie gras, truffles, walnuts, cassoulet, confit de canard and cabecou cheese. Local wines include a delightful red, Mille et Une Pierres from the nearby vineyard of Branceilles, and the aperitif wines "Vin de Paille" and "Vin de Noix".
